Some dogs come to us and we know we did right by them, others we just have to trust in our heart that we made a difference.
Tink came to DRSF when her shelter photo caught Pam’s eye, and this little emaciated white fluff ball became a dachshund. Whatever her life had been before she came to us, it had not been a kind one. Whatever her demons were, she would not let you hold her, would not snuggle, and jumped clear out of her skin every time you touched her and sometimes even when you didn’t.
I have zero experience in dogs that need to be groomed and she would get eye boogers from the tears from her eyes and little bits of food stuck in her white fur and I couldn’t touch her or hold her to get them out so most of the time she looked like a little fluffy white refugee but it was only bothering me, not her, so no sense in stressing her out any more than necessary to wrangle her clean.
She was not in the greatest of health and her little heart and lungs gave out all at once, and there was nothing we could do but let her go with the hope that her time with us was a good one and her favorite Purple Pebble Matt and peanut butter treats somehow made up for whatever had happened to her before.
My thanks to Dr. Hughes at Pet Medical Center of Boca for his compassion and helping Tink so gently across the bridge, everyone at PMCB who took such good care of her over her last few days, and A, J and the Weenies for loving her before she came to me. Run free little girl and look for the guy in the gray fleece…..He will take very good care of you
