Bobbi’s Journey Begins

It doesn’t look like much, just a leash sticking out from underneath a bed. But that one black leash, tells the story of an old life that was beyond horrific, and the chance at a new life that is beyond comprehension and nothing but terror.

Bobbi is one of 99 dogs removed from a house in Miami not even a month ago. She was adopted out from the shelter, and after she would not eat or drink, or come out from under a bed for the entire time, Bobbi came to DRSF.

We were bursting at the seams with hoarder dogs, but could not turn her away, as there was no way she could be adopted through normal channels in her mental state. She was terrified….heartbreakingly terrified. Bobbi spent a few days at Dr. Bruce’s Animal Hospital as there was simply no place for her to go. All our fosters were full, and Bobbi would not be an easy dog to foster.

One of DRSF’s fosters stepped up to the plate to try. They were already over capacity, but Bobbi had been through so very much, it was so unfair to leave her in a cage in her condition, and so last night Bobbi left Dr. Bruce’s and made her way to her new foster home.

Just getting her out of the car was a challenge, and seconds after getting through the door, Bobbi broke out in a panicked run through the house, trying violently and desperately to hide behind or under anything she could find. Chair legs were knocked around, couches were moved away from the walls, she didn’t know where she was, and she didn’t know where to go, she was out of her mind terrified.

Bobbi finally found a spot under a bed (that her Foster Mom didn’t even know could be a spot due to how much stuff was under the bed). Bobbi’s Foster Mom thought she would let her chill there for a while and put some peanut butter and a Canna-Pet tablet on top of it, hoping to get some into Bobbi to calm her down.

That was at 10:30PM last night. At 3PM this afternoon (after checking on her multiple times with a cell phone flash light to make sure she was still breathing) Bobbi’s Foster Mom literally had to move to bed to get her out from underneath it. Peanut butter -un touched after all that time.

Bobbi’s Foster Mom tried to move slow, but Bobbi continued to shake violently no matter what they tried. Luckily the leash was still on her and the back yard is fenced so when Bobbi broke out in her panicked run for safety, there wasn’t too far she could go.

We want nothing more than to help Bobbi see the life and love that is hers for the taking. We are gonna try everything we have to offer to help her get there. We don’t know if we are going to be able to hep her get there, but we are going to die trying, because Bobbi deserves it. Her “family” failed her, her adoptive family wanted to love her, but couldn’t. We are all she has. We are her last chance.

Bobbi is not the only hoarder dog in this condition and it is breaking our hearts to see her and Meri like this. We can cure sickness, we can stitch wounds, we can restore physical health. There is no straight route to cure what these dogs have been through. It took Bobbi 7 years to get to this condition and it is short sighted to think that she can or will turn in just a few days.

It will be a slow, slow process, we know Bobbi doesn’t know it, but we think she will be worth every second of it…… Thank you to everyone who has donated for the medical care of our hoarder dogs.
